Accredited by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), this one day SSSTS Refresher course enables site supervisors to refresh their skills, update their knowledge, and keep their professional qualifications valid. The SSSTS refresher course provides candidates with an updated understanding of the relevant health, safety, welfare, environmental, and legal issues, including any legislation changes that affect their role and workplace.

The CITB SSSTS refresher course is suitable for site managers, agents, and other construction industry professionals who have gained SSSTS accreditation in the past five years.

The SSSTS refresher course is only for delegates who have previously passed the two-day Site Supervision Safety training scheme (SSSTS) course and can provide proof of successful attendance and a copy of their certificate. If an individual cannot be located on the system and no evidence of their certificate can be found, they will have to attend the full Site Supervision Safety training scheme (SSSTS) course.

At the end of the course, you will have an understanding of:

• Health and safety law and how it applies to supervisors
• The Health and Safety at Work Act and HSE regulations
• Control measures and risk assessments
• Legal responsibilities of site supervisors
• Specific site issues that challenge supervisors daily
• Effective toolbox talks (a short presentation on a specific area of health and safety, presented by the candidates)
• Supervision of occupational health
• Behavioural safety
• Enhanced awareness of site health and safety issues
• Improved knowledge of any recent construction legislation developments — plus health, safety, welfare and environmental issues
• Identify measures that will assist in the practical implementation of their responsibilities, as established by new legislation and changing working practices
• Gain a better understanding of health and safety risks
• Demonstrate and apply the principles of safe workplace practices
• Understand the principles behind a risk assessment
• Conduct a thorough risk assessment

The refresher course includes two assessments:

• A multiple-choice examination paper
• Continuous assessment during exercises

The examination paper is compulsory and consists of 25 questions, selected by CITB, covering all aspects of the course.

The examination pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30). The paper consists of 22 multiple choice questions and three short written questions. There are four safety critical questions in each exam paper.

The delegate must answer all four of these questions correctly to pass the exam. The multiple choice questions are worth 1 point each, whereas written questions can score between 1-3 marks.

The exam paper forms the basis of assessment of whether or not a delegate has successfully achieved a satisfactory level of understanding to be awarded the Site supervision safety training scheme refresher (SSSTS-R) certificate.

The examination lasts for 30 minutes and must be completed within this time.

Delegates are permitted to use the Construction site supervision (GE706) publication for the last ten minutes of the examination period.

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date.

We have a policy of NO PASS – NO RETAKE FEE, so if you do not pass there is no charge for re-takes. Our pass rate is over 95%.

Where a delegate has achieved between 70%–77% (21, 22 or 23 out of 30) in the examination or has achieved the 80% pass rate but failed the safety critical questions, the delegate may re-sit the examination. This can either be on the same day or by resitting the exam by attending another course on the final day within a 90 day period (the delegate is not obliged to re-do the day’s course).

Exam results will be made available within 7 to 14 working days.

Payment in Full: If your budget allows, you can make your payment in full and start your studies knowing the cost of your course is complete. The course fee includes examination fees, full instruction, and exam resit.

Deposit Payment: To reserve and guarantee your place on the course you will need to pay a deposit fee of £50 and the remaining balance prior the course start date.
