About the Course
This Door Supervisor course is ideal for anyone wishing to get SIA Licence and work in the security industry as a door supervisor or security guard. The course is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications and is supported by Skills for Security, the standards setting body for the security industry and the SIA, which regulates the private security industry.

The Level 2 Door Supervisor course is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications and is supported by Skills for Security, the standards setting body for the security industry and the SIA, who regulate the private security industry.

Obtaining the Level 2 Door Supervisor qualification is the first step towards getting an SIA Door Supervisor Licence.

With a valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence, you are permitted to work in a wide variety of environments. From retail security to working the doors in high-end night clubs.

Security professionals who have a door supervisor licence can also carry out other activities, for example work as security guards and keyholders.

Course Structure & Content
Our SIA Door Supervisor courses consist of four parts:

Part 1: Distance learning –  self study prior to the course start date

Part 2: Theoretical knowledge – classroom based

Part 3: Practical Assessment – classroom based

Part 4: Multiple choice examination – classroom based

Unit 1: Principles of working in the private security industry

  • Understand arrest procedures relevant to security operatives
  • Understand the importance of safe working practices
  • Understand fire procedures in the workplace
  • Understand emergencies and the importance of emergency procedures
  • Understand how to communicate effectively as a security operative
  • Understand record keeping relevant to the role of the security operative
  • Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
  • Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
  • Understand good practice for post incident management

Unit 2: Principles of working as a door supervisor in the private security industry

  • Understand crimes relevant to door supervision
  • Know how to conduct effective search procedures
  • Understand drug-misuse legislation, issues and procedures relevant to the role of a door supervisor
  • Understand preservation of evidence relevant to the role of a door supervisor

Course pre requisites
Entry Requirements

To register for the course, all candidates must be aged 18 and over.

It is an SIA requirement that training centres must confirm that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid. Therefore, all candidates will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate must be valid for at least 12 months from the course start date.

You will need to present your First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate to Training4Employment before you start SIA Door Supervisor training.

If you don’t have a valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate, we can offer you an Emergency First Aid Training Course.

Assessment & Examination
To pass the SIA Door Supervisor course you will have to sit four multiple choice question e-assessments.

For Unite 1 – Principles of working in the private security industry you will be expected to answer 72 multiple choice questions with a duration of 1 hour 50 minutes and a pass mark of 51 questions.

For Unit 2 – Principles of working as a door supervisor in the private security industry you will be expected to answer 50 multiple choice questions with a duration of 1 hour 15 minutes and a pass mark of 35 questions.

For Unit 3 – Application of conflict management in the private security industry you will be expected to answer 20 multiple choice questions with a duration of 30 minutes and a pass mark of 14 questions..

For Unit 4 – Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry you will be expected to answer 30 multiple choice questions with a duration of 45 minutes and a pass mark of 24 questions.

Examination Resits
We have a policy of NO PASS – NO RETAKE FEE, so if you do not pass there is no charge for 2 re-takes. Our pass rate is over 95%.

Everything you need to know for the exams is covered in the course and our experienced trainers will fully prepare you for success in the tests.

Exam results will be made available on  the same day.

Refunds
Our aim is to make it as easy as possible to learn and relate subjects with Training 4 Employment Ltd.

  1. Bookings may be made by e-mail, via the T4E website, or by telephone.
  2. Registration for the course is not guaranteed until a completed registration form and payment (deposit) has been received. Placement in the course will be confirmed via E-mail by the T4E staff.
  3. Deposit and payments. Our courses are non-refundable 24 hours after booking. You can receive a full refund if you inform us within 24 hours of booking of your intention to cancel, and you will be refunded the amount paid for the course. Courses cancelled after 24 hours of booking will not be eligible for a refund.

Enrolment and Finance Options Available

If you’re funding your studies yourself then we have three payment options available, detailed below:

Payment in Full: If your budget allows, you can make your payment in full and start your studies knowing the cost of your course is complete. The course fee £259 includes examination fees, full instruction, and exam resit.

Deposit Payment: To reserve and guarantee your place on the course you will need to pay a deposit fee of £100 and the remaining balance of £159.

SIA Licence Renewal

 

You must get a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) if your job involves guarding a licensed premises.

A licensed premise is any premises that is open to the public which sells alcohol or provides regulated entertainment.

You do not need a door supervisor licence if your job only involves the use of CCTV equipment.

 

To get your licence you:

  • must be at least 18 years of age
  • must pass an identity check
  • must pass a criminal record check

 

Qualifications in door supervision

Before you apply for your licence you must get a qualification in door supervision that is recognised by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

To get a qualification in door supervision you must take 4 training modules and pass 3 exams.

The modules you must study are:

  • SIA’s ‘Common’ module
  • Door supervision module
  • Conflict management module
  • Physical intervention skills module

 

Integration with other licences

People who have a door supervisor licence can also carry out other activities, for example work as security guards and keyholders.
You can complete you SIA licence application online or through the post. You must supply the supporting relevant documentation and pay a fee. The licence application costs £190 and is non-refundable.

Granted licences last for 3 years. If you pay your own licence fee, you can claim tax relief – worth £49 for basic rate tax payers.

If you are an employer paying an employee’s licence fee, there will be no tax or National Insurance liability. If you need more than one licence for your activities, you may be eligible for a 50% discount for the second application fee.

 

Conditions

The SIA can attach to the licence any conditions they believe to be reasonable.

You must renew your licence before it expires to continue working. You can apply to renew your licence up to 4 months before your current licence expires.

The SIA may authorise a person to enter your place of business or place of work (where your licensed action is undertaken) to assess your compliance with any ongoing obligations. You may also have to provide any relevant documents or information to show your compliance with any licence obligations. Learn more…

What qualification do you need to be a Door Supervisor?

You’ll need to do the Level 2 Award for working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry, to get a front line licence, which is issued by the Security Industry Authority. You’ll need to complete 4 training modules and pass the exams.

Do I have to complete any distance learning (e-learning) before attending the training?

Yes, the Door Supervisor course includes distance learning which you must complete before you attend the classroom training.

How long does Door Supervisor Certificate last?

Three years. Once a qualification is achieved, it is then valid to use to apply for the licence for three years.

What's the difference between door supervisor and security guard?

Door supervisors:

Those who carry out security duties in or at licensed premises, like pubs and nightclubs, preventing crime and disorder and keeping staff and customers safe

Security officers (guarding):

Those who guard premises against unauthorised access or occupation, outbreaks of disorder, theft or damage

When will I receive my certificate?

Certificates are usually sent to your email within 3 days after the examination Board have relieced your examination results.  It takes approximately 3 calendar weeks.

Please note, you don’t need a certificate to apply for your SIA Licence.

Can I Apply for SIA Licence if I had a Criminal Record?

You can use the SIA criminal record indicator to see whether you will pass our criminality checks. You need to pass these checks to get an SIA licence.
