Fire Safety Level 2

Principles of Fire Safety for fire wardens/marshals

If you own or manage a business or other non-domestic premises, you’re responsible for fire safety. You’re responsible for fire safety in business or other non-domestic premises if you’re:

  • An employer
  • The owner
  • The landlord
  • An occupier
  • Anyone else with control of the premises, for example, a facilities manager, building manager, managing agent or risk assessor

You are referred to as ‘the responsible person’.

In every workplace, it is crucial to have fire safety measures in place regardless of the size of the business. In addition to installing fire alarms and conducting fire drills, employees could be trained in fire safety.

Fire wardens/marshals are expected to assist the person with overall responsibility for fire safety. And they might be trained in emergency firefighting, helping with evacuations and carrying out fire checks and inspections.

Any individual involved in the management of fire safety – fire wardens/marshals in any area where there is a potential fire risk should have this Level 2 Principles in Fire Safety qualification.

By earning this qualification, learners will recognize fire causes, common hazards, how to conduct a fire risk assessment, and how to reduce fire risk. They will also know the steps in a fire risk assessment and how to reduce the probability of fire.
