The rise and rise of CCTV systems in the world has lead to many different phenomenon. Some see the cameras everywhere as signs of the rapidly approaching “Big Brother” state, where we are watched 24/7. Others have seen the benefit of the system, bringing justice in crimes that may have otherwise gone unsolved. And then there are those poor unfortunates who have seen the system come back to haunt them in different ways.
Here are a few videos that show the vast impact CCTV has had, for better or for worse.
The Bad
Speaking of “haunting”, several CCTV videos claim to show proof of ghosts. It’s a subject that has long fascinated the human race, and now we have the ability to record locations once they are empty, it seems more and more “proof” crops up all the time. But there are always those willing to fake evidence in order to spike a view count. Take this for example. It’s all very well done, slick, and if legit would be a serious piece of evidence in the debate about paranormal activity. . . until you remember that CCTV doesn’t record sound!
The Shocking
When people don’t think others are watching, they get up to all manner of things. Perfectly normal human beings can start talking to themselves, dancing, or breaking the law. With that in mind, check out the video below. It shows a nun, a wholesome figure of good, doing something. . . not so good.
The Unfortunate
We’ve all been there – those moments when you think to yourself “I’m glad no one saw that”. Unfortunately, sometimes, someone is watching. And, even worse, they are recording. Take this man for example. Already in the embarrassing situation of being locked out of his room naked, having to walk to the lobby as everyone awkwardly avoids him, the entire ordeal is immortalised on CCTV.
The . . . Drunk
Lets face it, we all know why you are here. Drunk people doing stupid things on CCTV comprise 75% of CCTV footage you’ve seen on YouTube, so lets not delay the satisfaction any longer. Lets see this guy seamlessly blend in at a shop. I think he may be a little past his best.
The Good
Lets finish on captured footage that doesn’t show drunks, thieves or “ghosts”, but real heroes. These are the videos that let you know everything might just turn out OK. Our first one captures the moment that a man in China caught a baby that had wondered out on to a balcony. Somehow, despite the rain and panic that surrounded him, Mr. Lee caught the child with ease.
Others from this category are unfortunately too graphic, or too sad, to show here. So how about a cat fighting off a dog? Because you can never go wrong with a cat video on the internet!
So as you can see, there’s no telling what you could see on any given day as a CCTV operator. Not only do you have the chance to capture the wonderful randomness of life, but you can get paid to protect people AND potentially see something hilarious, all in the same day!
